I don't know if it's the full moon or the fact that spring break is only 2 weeks away, but I am having to practice patience more than I ever had to before with my class. I have so many awesome students in my class who are eager to learn, responsible, and who really try hard to make good grades. I also have some students that have the potential to be great, but haven't realized it within themselves yet. I have tried so many things to motivate them to aim high, but I'm still on the search for that one thing that lights a spark in each student. What a task I tell ya! I think that's the hardest part of teaching.
My class has been reading Charlotte's Web the past two weeks. I haven't read it since I was in elementary school myself, so I forgot how funny the characters are. We have such a enjoyable time when we read together. I assign each student a part (like a play) and when we read, each person does the voice of their character. We laugh every time Wilbur lays on his manure pile, when Templeton hoards his ancient goose egg (which recently exploded), and when Fern and Avery argue back and forth. Now I remember why its a classic! I can't wait until we're done.
One of my students asked if I would bring in a piglet for the class to see. Since I don't have my own farm and don't really know any farmers, that kind of request is tough to fulfill. It was such a fantastic idea though. We'll see what magic I can create.
Next on the novel study list is Because of Winn Dixie. I am on the search for about 15 more chapter books. They are hard to find...for a good deal or free. Another classic! Can't wait!
